Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
206 PM SST Sat Aug 12 2017

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT...Latest model solutions show a
surface trough remaining to the north of the Samoan region through
Monday. A high pressure system to the southwest will continue to
migrate eastward pushing the aforementioned trough further north
through Monday. Another surface trough to the west will move
across the territory Monday night. This trough coupled with the
broad area of high pressure east will transport a lot of moisture
over the region by the end of the short term. Therefore...expect
showers to increase from scattered to numerous and occasional and
moderate to fresh trade winds to prevail towards the end of the
forecast period.

.Long term...
TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...The latter aforementioned trough to
the west will continue to migrate south-eastward through Wednesday
night. Another high pressure to the southwest will move across
the Samoan Islands on Thursday through the rest of the forecast
period. Expect numerous to occasional showers to persist
throughout the long term and moderate to fresh trade winds for the
rest of the long term forecast.

.Marine...
Combined seas of 7 to 9 ft will persist through tonight before
increasing to 9 to 12 ft Sunday night. Sea heights will subside to
7 to 9 ft Tuesday night and subsiding 5 to 7 ft by Thursday. PacIOOS
Aunu'u buoy data shows this upward trend before subsiding. Will
continue the high surfs and small crafts advisories.
