Going
for Gold - next steps
Why Vote for the Liberal Democrats on 2nd May?
We believe politics is important for everyone because it is about making
real choices about things that matter. On 2nd May you can use your vote
to make a choice.
So what are some key differences between us and the other two parties
at this election?
Labour:
-
oppose our intention to complete the Black Box recycling scheme.
-
oppose our free surrender service introduced to tackle the growing problem
of abandoned vehicles.
-
oppose the purchase of additional litter bins
-
would employ fewer street cleaning staff
-
would not pay for an additional planning officer to deal with the
enormous burden of work involved in delivering new development in Cambridge
-
would not allow the Cambridge airport site to be developed for housing,
even though it is a 'brownfield' site (ie deemed by government to be the
preferred type of land for development) and even though the owners have
expressed a willingness to leave the site if they can relocate their business.
Instead, they want to build thousands of homes in an area of important
landscape to the south west of Cambridge
-
have stated publicly that the 'nightbus', the late night bus service
for young people subsidised by the City Council, is a waste of money
-
have for years believed that the Council has no role to play in the support
of public transport
-
have failed to condemn central government's moves to impose huge rent
increases on Council tenants and proposals to grab up to 75% of housing
capital receipts when the Council gains 'debt free' status.
The Conservatives:
-
never produce a proposal for spending the Council's budget or setting the
Council Tax and therefore their views are meaningless and without
credibility
-
say they are concerned with issues like graffiti and recycling, but they
don't bother to attend meetings where policy is being developed
-
won't say how they propose to meet the future development needs
of Cambridge. They are opposed to significant growth of the city and yet
they claim that the housing shortage must be solved by increasing the supply
of homes.
The Liberal Democrats put service to the public first. We're not
interested in showiness or spin. We believe in listening to you and telling
you the truth and working with you to make our city a better place.
There is a lot more that we want to do. Vote Liberal Democrat on
2 May and let's keep going for gold.
