Frederick Lewis Dibblee (Junior) was born in Madras, India. He was educated at Haileybury.

Frederick had hoped to enter the Royal Engineers, but this cost money, and when his father died in 1988, money was short. He managed to enter the Royal Marine Artillery (which didn't require money).

Frederick Dibblee was on the Benin Expedition in 1897. In the 1901 census, Frederick Dibblee, aged 29, is described as an officer, living in Kinston and East Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire. He was in the Battle of Jutland WWI. He became a Lieutenant Colonel.
