Frederick Lewis Dibblee (Junior) was born in Madras, India. He was educated at Haileybury. He had hoped to enter the Royal Engineers, but this cost money, and when his father died, money was short. He managed to enter the Royal Marine Artillery (which didn't require money). He was on the Benin Expedition in 1897, and in the Battle of Jutland WWI. He became a Lieytenant Colonel.
