Original texts

I have transcribed such information as is relevant to my own family history. However, anyone sharing my family history, or anyone with family of the same period, should consult the original texts. I may have made a mistake!

There is an impressive number of books scanned and put on the web for free access. These are in their original format, but have also been OCR'ed (converted to text automatically), so they are available in a range of formats. This allows you to search them (yippee!) However the OCR is notoriously unreliable, so not all occurrences may show up. Some books have a traditional index at the end, but that, too, may be incomplete.

I have given page numbers where Dibble (or variant) is mentioned. These are the page numbers of the editions given below, not the number of the scanned version, nor the original text.

Mormon database: The Mormons' correct title is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have compiled this vast database of births, marriages and deaths. This is a highly reputable resource, but like all large scale data, some caution should be used in trusting individual entries.
