Mary Diana Margaret Eckford was born in 1838 and died when she was less than three years old. She was the oldest daughter of George Henry Eckford. His wife Catherine wrote this booklet about her. They had two more children. Henry James Eckford died when he was less than a year old (there is a poem about him at the end of this booklet). Their only surving child was their younger daughter, Emily Jane Eckford.
The little girl is described as "the granddaughter of the Late James Alexander Haldane". James Haldane was a noted evangelical Christian. This booklet considers more important than the little girl's paternal grandfather, who ended up as a Lieutenant General and was Compagnion of the Bath. Also, James Alexander Haldane did not die until 1851. That suggests that this booklet was not, as we might expect, written soon after Little Di's death, but at least ten years later. This is, indeed, as the cover suggests, a religious tract.
