References to Gwydir Street in 1892 directory

This information was taken from Historical Directories. Apologies if I have made any mistakes. The printing is sometimes hard to read! Also, the search engine obviously uses OCR (optical character reader) which may not pick up all references.

There is a reference to the Beaconsfield Club. "The Beaconsfield Club, Gwydir Street, is a structure of brick, erected in 1994 by a limited liability company, as a working men's club: there are now (1892) 500 members: political meetings are also held there." In another part of the directory, it says that the secreatary was J.R.James. The Beaconsfield Club lasted until 1984, but lost its licence after complaints about noise and fights. It was demolished and replaced by Beaconsfield House.
