History of 17 Gwydir Street

Arthur Cook, shopkeeper, lived in 17 Gwydir St in 1892 (see Kelly's Directory).
Joseph Hartley, fishmonger, lived here in 1904 (see Spalding's Directory).
Dennis Legge, fried fish dealer, and George Newstead, brewer's labourer, lived here in 1913 (see Spalding's Directory).
Daniel Legge was still here in 1916 (see Kelly's Directory). He is described as having a fried fish shop.

Donald Halls emailed me in 2017. He was born in 1927 and lived at Vicarage Terrace. He visited the fish and chip shop at 17, Gwydir Street as a child about 1938-9. The man that ran it then was a Mr Langford. But he added later, "On reflecting about the family that ran that Fish and Chip shop I think I was wrong about Langford. I believe it could STILL have been Legge"
