Edward V

Previous king: Edward IV (father)       Reigned: 1483       Next king: Richard III (uncle)

Edward V Little Princes in the Tower Edward V became king when his father Edward IV died. Since he was only twelve years old, his father had appointed Edward's uncle Richard (later Richard III) to be the boy's protector. This was a mistake. Richard was ambitious. He put Edward V and his younger brother in the Tower of London (see right). This was sometimes used to house important people, but it was also a prison. Richard made himself king in 1483, and the two young princes were never seen again.

In 1674, men working on the Tower of London dug up a box containing the skeletons of two children. Could these be the remains of the murdered princes?
