Edward VI Edward VI was ten years old when he became king, and died when he was 15 years old. This meant that other people acted as regent, ruling England for him. His father Henry VIII had separated the Church of England from the Church on Rome. It was Edward who made the Church of England into a Protestant church. the Book of Common Prayer in English (rather than Latin) was introduced in 1549.

Edward VI Grammar School Startford Schools that had been run by religious bodies were refounded during the Tudors. There are still several schools in England called Edward VI School. One of these is the school in Stratford (see right). Shakespeare was probably taught here.
