Georgia - The Atlanta Campaign was part of the American Civil War.
Kentucky - The Hatfield-McCoy Feud took place between the McCoys of Kentucky and the Hatfields of West Virginia.
Mississippi - This state is named after the Mississippi River although this river borders several states.
North Carolina - In 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright built and flew the first powered airplane from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
South Carolina - South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union before the Civil War.
Tennessee - Davy Crockett was born in Tennessee and became Congressman there.
Virginia - Mount Vernon in Virginia was George Washington's home.
West Virginia - The Mound Builders created earthen burial mounds and other earthworks. They lived over two thousand years ago. Grave Creek Mound is in West Virginia.
